Creative spring fever

Yesterday, I felt creative.
I also had a desire to do some spring cleaning.

The desire to clean comes in waves for me.
I always have a hint of OCD (others make fun of me for it), and I like to be organized. I really do.

But sometimes, it feels like too much of a burden to care if everything is truly tidy or not. Life gets busy, and I feel like I don't have time, especially for my bedroom.
Yesterday, it was a weird joy of sorts to clean. To have things TIDY and PRETTY was an awesome feeling.

After taking care of basic cleaning, (dusting, vacuuming, etc. I'm sure you know what that means, so I shouldn't have to explain it, but I did, and now I'm over-using parenthesis. So sorry.), I embarked on some projects:

  • I made an earring holder using a frame and some screen-wire. It was easy to make, it keeps my earrings organized, and it lets them look beautiful even when I'm not wearing them.

(Fact: I have a thing for earrings, and a large collection of them. This is just a sampling)

  • I was a reuser/salvager. (Fact: I love to rework junk to my advantage) I painted a doll chair (that dates back from when I was young) to match my decor. I'm now using it to hang all of my crazy beaded necklaces on. It still needs more creative expression, but it'll do for now:

  • I installed two metal bars to display my scarves and purses. (now I can't decide if I really like them, and they are permanently stuck there. I always seem to feel regret for things I can't undo...c'est la vie)

  • I put up my mini-whiteboard, for obvious reasons. You'll notice in the picture that there is a quote from some famous person. This makes me refined. (hah, you know that's how I am, writing inspiring quotes for myself to be erased. That's what they do in pottery barn magazines...and I'm no magazine person. But since it's a new thing, I scribbled one of my favorite poems on there and called it good.) In everyday terms, I will use it to make lists! (Fact: I like have a penchant for listing things out)
High five if you're a list person! Anyone?...

  • I sorted through my jewelry. (I have so much costume jewelry, it's insane. I get it handed down to me-- such fun!)  I utilized some bead-boxes to keep things sorted. You don't need to see a picture of that. That's boring.
  • I transplanted one of my plants into a happily silver painted pot:

...and I did plenty of other menial tasks to beautify my room.

Riveting, I know.

When I was finished, my room looked like a store, according to my sisters.
All I can say is, "that's much better than a pig sty."

******
If you can't tell, my room is GREEN.
How I am enamored of that color. (I'm pretty sure that's the right usage...)

Know why I picked it?

I shall relay my source of inspiration. I hope it sounds artistic and poetic enough.

One day, late last summer, as I was driving through a forest (the Pisgah National Forest), I was struck by how pretty the trees looked with sun streaming through their leaves. The green hue gave a relaxing vibe and was lovely to look at.  If I could just have been in that forest and taken time to absorb the greenery (and snap pictures), I'd have felt so content. It was like a fairy tale.
(I've always had a love of pictures, trees, and earth-y things.)

SO, I decided then that I wanted my room to be like living in a tree/on a leaf/in a fairy tale and to be comfortable and relaxing. As a result, the colors of my room are such:
  • shades of leafy green
  • wood flooring and furniture
  • black and purple accenting pieces
It sounds like a weird combination, but it works well.

I'm sorry if I bored you with talk of my projects.

...I'll be more interesting tomorrow.

  1. Hi five! My lists usually take the form of sticky notes though. I love sticky notes! I might have to blog about them....

  2. Yes! Another list-maker! (Virtual high-fiving is awesome.)
Sticky notes are rather amazing, I do agree. Without them, life would be incomplete. Definitely blog about them. :)
